The Aquarian Tabernacle Church (ATC) was founded in Index, Washington in 1979 by Pete "Pathfinder" Davis. His goal in creating the ATC was to provide services to pagans similar to those of a Christian Church. What started as a way to bring pagans together grew into the first pagan church to receive international recognition and full legal status as a religious organization. The ATC, however, differs from the traditional view of a church in the view that it "is not a building, but rather the people who participate" as described on the website of the ATC itself.
