Enki is one of the most powerful gods in the Mesopotamian pantheon, with Anu and Enlil. He resides in the ocean underneath the earth called the abzu, which is an important place in cosmic geography. Enki is linked with wisdom, magic, incantations, and cleaners. He was a favorite god amongst diviners and exorcist priests as he is the ultimate source of all ritual knowledge utilized to avert and expel evil. Enki is patron of the arts, crafts, and all other achievements of civilization. His ability to cleanse established him as the deity of purification. In the Babylonian flood myth, he has a plan to create beings out of clay to work for the gods and later had to save them from the chief god Enlil. From Mythical by Karen Sue Powell
